St Thomas Mission located at Kailash Nagar Bhilai has been a household name in the region for decades due to relentless humanitarian works of the great visionary Late Lamented Bishop Dr Stephanos Mar Theodosius, the founder of MGM Group of institutions. In life he has inspired many a personalities and still continues to do so through fruits of his great labor. His Grace Arch Bishop Dr Stephanos Mar Theodosius was the first Metropolitan of Calcutta Diocese established in the year 1979 and founder Director / President of St Thomas mission, Bhilai. Born on October 2, 1924 at Pathamuttom , a village in Kottayam District of Kerala state, as the fifth child of the parents Kurien and Mariam of Kaygalath family, he was named Punnose, which means “Stephanos” in Malayalam. He started in primary school education in Malayalam medium at the local village school. Later he obtained middle and high school education in English medium from the nearby English medium school. He was awarded degrees in BA and MA (History) from DN Jain College and Mahakoshal Mahavidhyalaya, Jabalpur. His theological education started at Leonard Theological College, Jabalpur and was completed in United State of America, acquiring BD (Bachelor of Divinity) from General Theological Seminary, New York and STM (Master of Sacred Theology) from Berkley Divinity School, New Haven. His educational career was crowned with Ph D from the General Theological Seminary, New York.
He was called to eternal rest on November 5, 2007 at Muscat while visiting his flocks. His last remains were brought to Bhilai on November 6, 2007 and were entombed in the special vault on the side of the Bhilai Ashram Chapel as per his will. Hundreds of priests, nuns and lakhs of believers from different part of the globe took part in the grand funeral service on November 8, 2007. Today Mar Theodosius’s resting place at the Ashram Chapel has become a source of blessing to many through intercession prayers.
Under the guidance of the Metropolitan of Calcutta Diocese, H G Bishop Dr Joseph Mar Dionysius, 29th October to 5th November, 2017 is being celebrated as the 10th Annual Remembrance Day by the Calcutta Diocese at St Thomas Mission Campus, kailashnagar Bhilai. The Chief celebrant of the service is the supreme head of the church, His Holiness Moran Mar Baselios Mar Thoma Paulose II, Catholicos of the Apostolic Throne of St Thomas and Metropolitan of Malankara. Each day Holy Qurbana is being celebrated at the mission premises and on 4th November, 2017 it will be led by Bishop Dr Joseph Mar Dionysius. After the evening prayer, which will be held at M G O Cathedral, Bhilai, a Holy rally (Rassa) of believers and well-wishers will march from MGO Cathedral to Tomb of Mar Theodosius followed by Holy Benediction. Then the 45th Annual Day celebration of St Thomas Mission will be held from 8 pm at St. Thomas Mission Centre, Kailash Nagar, Bhilai with great joy and zeal by the gathering. On 5th of November, 2017 the solemn ceremony will start with the Morning Prayer and Holy Qurbana led by His Holiness Moran Mar Baselios Mar Thoma Paulose II. Then Rassa, Dhoopa Prarthana and Benediction will be followed by love feast. The 10th Remembrance Day of Late Lamented H G Bishop Dr Stephanos Mar Theodosius will conclude with lowering of perunnal flag.
