“BE STRONG BE SAFE”: SELF DEFENSE TRAINING BY MAHILA RAKSHA TEAM AT CCET, BHILAI

In lieu of the drastically changing scenario of women safety and ever increasing platforms for stalkers, the Women Cell of Christian College of Engineering and Technology (CCET), Bhilai in association with the Durg branch of Mahila Raksha (Women Safety) Team, Chhattisgarh Police organized a Self defense training program on 17th of August, 2017. The Chief Guest of this event was Mrs Suresha Choubey, Additional Superintendent of Police, Investigative Units on Crimes against Women (IUCAW), Durg and the Guest of Honor was Mrs Monika Pandey, Incharge Superintendent of Police, Mahila Cell, Durg. Mrs Archana Choudhary, Associate Professor of CSE Dept. welcomed both the honorable guests and said that this event is organized to spread awareness and counter the challenges of women safety in modern era. The Principal of CCET, Dr Dipali Soren expressed her gratitude to both the Guests and women cell for such fruitful program. She congratulated Mahila Raksha team of Chhattisgarh police on their first anniversary and applauded their immense contribution in checking and preventing crime against women. She said that the onus is on us to provide a platform for continous interactions between police and public for effective prevention of crimes and awareness of law.

The Chief Guest, Mrs Suresha Choubey, Additional Superintendent of Police, IUCAW, Durg, in her speech motivated the young minds to become role models and catalysts of positive change in society. She applauded the work of Women Safety Cell of CG Police for the steep fall of crime against women in Durg District. She asked the gathering to come forward in reporting minor incidents and urged them not to neglect even the minute crimes in their vicinity. She encouraged the young minds to shed the fear of police and be responsible, law abiding citizens. She shared valuable information about platform for reporting of crime and helpline for interaction with Women Safety Cell. She urged the gathering to avoid sharing of personal information over social media and in no condition resort to victim blaming and to never create hoax. The Guest of Honor, Mrs Monika Pandey, Incharge Superintendent of Police, Mahila Cell, Durg, said that lax in our attitude towards crime causes it to perpetrate. She said that we must never avoid small problems lest it festers into a large one. While talking about various crimes against women, she illustrated various scenarios and educated the gathering about every nuances of the punishment meted out by the judiciary for such heinous acts. She also warned against the consequences of false FIRs and equally harsh punishments for such cases.  Then the Mahila Raksha Team gave an awe inspiring demonstration cum training of various self defense techniques to leave the criminals in tatters. Thereafter Dr Dipali Soren presented the token of gratitude from CCET family in the form of mementos to both the distinguished Guests.   Executive Vice Chairman of CCET, Fr Jose K Varghese together with the management, extended his warm wishes to the gathering and expressed gratitude to both the honorable guests and Dr Sudha Singh, Coordinator of Women Cell for successful completion of the program. The Vote of Thanks was proposed by Mrs Archana Choudhary.
