The Research and Development (R&D) Cell of Christian College of Engineering and Technology (CCET), Bhilai under the aegis of the Coordinator Cell of Chhattisgarh Council of Science and Technology (CCOST), Raipur, organized an expert lecture on “Modern Trends in Industrial Automation” at its kailash nagar campus. Time and again CCET has organized such educational programs focusing on every aspect of societal development through technical and ethical means. The Chief Guest of this event was Dr K Subramaniam, Director-General of CCOST, Raipur. The Guest of Honor and expert speaker was Mr P Veluchamy, Assistant General Manager of Mechatronics Cell, Ashok Leyland, Chennai. The special guest of the event was Dr M G Roymon, Principal of St Thomas College, Bhilai. The program started with lighting of lamp ceremony in the presence of Fr Aju K Varghese, Bursar, Dr Dipali Soren, Principal, Dr Sandhya Pillai, Coordinator, R&D Cell, HODs of all departments, faculties and students.

In her welcome speech, Dr Dipali Soren said that this program is to educate the future industrialist and technocrats about need of automation in current and future industries. She said that automation has revolutionalized every scientific and non scientific field like computer science, pneumatic, hydraulic, electronics devices, electrical etc. It has significant contribution in labor saving, resource & time saving as well as astronomical improvements in quality, accuracy and precision. Dr Sandhya Pillai, Coordinator, R&D Cell gave a brief report of CCOST sponsored events organized in CCET. She said that currently CCET is handling two CCOST funded projects and is publishing an annual National Journal of Science and Engineering Education. She asked the gathering to learn as much as they can from such educational programs. The Chief Guest, Dr K Subramaniam in his speech highlighted the importance of syllabus and laboratory updation by merging industry and academia. He said that modern industries have to uphold productivity, quality control, safety and environmental protection while maintaining a healthy profit margin. He asked the youth to harness the immense ocean of information at their disposal to use real time information and knowledge for improvement of industrial functionality at reasonable cost. The Guest Speaker, Mr P Veluchamy educated the gathering about techniques, cost and feasibility of modern automation technologies. With the help of videos and presentations about current production processes employed in various units of Ashok- Leyland, he illustrated various automation techniques and cutting edge manufacturing processes used in automobile industries. He said that demand and production cost of a product coupled with intelligent marketing, advances its profit margin. Thereafter in a felicitation ceremony, Dr Dipali Soren presented mementos to Dr K Subramaniam and Mr P Veluchamy as token of appreciation from CCET. The vote of thanks was proposed by Dr Sandhya Pillai and the anchor of this event was Jonathan Goforth, Lecturer, Civil Engineering Dept.
