Christian College of Engineering and Technology (CCET), Bhilai in association with Chhattisgarh Council of Science and Technology (CGCOST), Raipur organized a popular guest lecture on “Students Dream, Innovative Ideas And Task In Science And Technology Transformation For Societal Mission And Vision” by Dr E Vidyasagaran, Senior Scientist, PURA –Dr A P J Abdul Kalam Concept, Madurai. The Guest Lecture was aimed at promoting rural development through cost effective innovative technologies. It was organized under the aegis of Coordination Cell of CGCOST in Christian College and funded by CGCOST, Raipur. The Guest Lecture was held in the college auditorium in the presence of Dr Dipali Soren, Principal, CCET, HODs of all engg depts., various functional Heads along with senior faculties, technical staff and final year students. The program started with oath taking ceremony under Dr Vidyasagaran, where final year students pledged to uphold all human values to become better students, citizens and human beings. The Guest lecture was preceded by a welcome address by Dr. Dipali Soren, Principal, CCET followed by an introduction of the Guest Speaker by Dr. Sandhya Pillai, Coordinator, R&D Cell. Dr Vidyasagaran through his extensive knowledge and vast experience as a consultant in PURA scheme and a former senior scientist in Central Electrochemical Research Institute motivated the young minds to harness their vast untapped energy for accomplishing the goal set by great humanitarian Honorable Dr A P J Abdul Kalam. He said that creativity is the key to urbanize rural areas of India. He shared his vision of providing urban amenities like internet connection, television, e-banking and ATM in rural areas under the PURA scheme. He cited several examples of small innovations done by people around like- wind-operated mobile charger, user friendly car jack, and automatic fire fighter Robot etc. He also gave an overview of the activities of PURA (Provision Urban Amenities in Rural Areas) and how a village could be made self sufficient by providing small facilities.
In another session specifically designed for scholars either PhD holders or pursuers, Dr E Vidyasagaran, motivated them to pursue research in such fields which can be readily used for rural development. He also taught them the nuances of generating and acquiring funds for such endeavors. The vote of thanks was given by the coordinator and anchor of this event was Dr Sandhya Pillai. The Executive Vice Chairman of CCET, Fr Jose K Varghese and the Principal, Dr Dipali Soren expressed their gratitude to Dr E Vidyasagaran and CGCOST for their ubiquitous support. They also congratulated R&D Cell for successful completion of this fruitful event and extended all the resources in CCET’s disposal for any such endeavors in the future.
